Games get going

Next semester (January 2010) I’ll be teaching a number of subjects where students will be learning to create computer games or other interactive media. Just in time, Adobe has launched the Flash Platform Game Technology Center which offers a range of useful materials including videos, samples, tutorials and games.

This heralds a new era of support for gaming from Adobe who has, until recently, shied away from promoting their tools for creating games. Of course, Adobe Flash is one of the most popular tools for creating online casual games and provides a relatively accessible gateway to learning to program games.

This new resource will also prove useful for schools and colleges intending to offer the new NPA Computer Games Development qualification which is currently under development by the Scottish Qualifications Authority.
