Charity Zombie Walk

On 29th October we held a Zombie Walk at Carnegie College and Dunfermline’s Kingsgate Shopping Centre in aid of the charity CHAS which provides hospice care for children and young people with terminal illnesses.

With over 30 people participating, the walk proved an interesting sight both around the college and in Dunfermline town centre. The proceeds have yet to be counted, but we feel we made a reasonable contribution to the cause.

Events like this are a great way to introduce aspects of citizenship, teamwork and social responsibility into the learning experience. The event has to be publicised, requiring posters and flyers, and online promotion e.g. Twitter and Facebook and also contacting the local press. Police need to be informed, and permission was needed from the local shopping centre. Facepainting and costume preparation was also required on the day, as was organising transport.

We feel the event was a great success and hope to do it next year, but hopefully with many more people. We also hope to get more students involved in the promotion of the event, and maybe incorporate it into the curriculum.
