Learning to talk…

This week the HNC Interactive Media and HND Visual Communication students are learning to talk. Well, they’re learning to make animated characters talk by lip-synching mouth shapes to recorded speech.

We looked at the common mouth shapes called visual phonemes and applied them in an animation of a character saying a short recorded phrase.

This proved much easier than getting a character to walk. Last week we created walking characters by manipulating a jointed character, but some of the results looked like really bad footballing injuries! This proved quite funny in class, and we all took time to look at each others results. One student even made a moonwalking Michael Jackson.
