Animation – NC and HNC

Continuing with animation today with the NC Graphic Design group and HNC Interactive Media.

The NC students have been working on simple flipbooks and their work is to be presented as a sketchbook/logbook demonstrating their ideas, research, planning and development. To help the students better understand the process and the level of work required I have been working on the project myself and producing an exemplar sketchbook. I find that many new students don’t really know what a sketchbook is, and don’t know how much work to produce, so I thought the best method of teaching this is to demonstrate and lead by example. I don’t intend to do this for all the projects, I’m only doing it once to help the students over this initial hurdle.

The HNC students have been learning about animation principles and applying them to animations in Flash. Today they created a ‘bouncing bean’ character using motion tweens, squash and stretch, pose-to-pose and slow-in/out principles.
