Traditional animation techniques

The NC Graphic Design students have been coming up with ideas for creating simple traditional animations to be made into a flipbook or zoetrope. Although there have been a lot of good storyline ideas for creating animated adverts for a new mobile phone brand, the students have been finding it difficult to come up with something simple that will work for a short 12-frame animation. Who’d have thought it would be difficult to come up with a really simple concept for a really short animation? It seems like complex might be easier than simple…go figure!

Meanwhile I demonstrated a few different animation techniques, constructing a flipbook from a series of photographs and later using the same photos in Flash to make a computer-based animation.
